Mentorship Program

Registration for the 2023 cohort is now CLOSED

Our 2023 Program starts August 17!

Launched in 2015, the objective of the Mentorship Program is to help internationally trained professionals make the transition to work in Canada, and improve their skills and confidence while developing professional connections.

The program matches immigrant professionals (Mentees) with seasoned professionals (Mentors) already established in Canada who share similar professional backgrounds and career interests.

Following our structured program, each Mentor-Mentee pair works together defining a realistic set of goals and executing an action plan to achieve these goals.

Key Features

  • Structured and fast pace mentorship program, 3 months in length.
  • Participants commit a minimum of 1 hour per week during 12 weeks to upgrade their skills, make connections and immerse themselves in the Canadian culture and workforce.
  • Hybrid group meetings to enhance support: Kick-off, Mid-term, and Graduation.
  • Professional mentoring program platform facilitates scheduling, video-conferencing, progress tracking and issue escalation.
  • Close Mentor-Mentee progress follow up.
  • Learn from program success stories as well as from the people having issues to move forward.
  • Support from a great team of volunteers.
  • Access to webinars and mentorship materials for Mentors and Mentees.
  • Great speakers to inspire you!
  • Mentors and Mentees that successfully complete the program will be issued a Digital Credential to recognize their contribution and dedication.

How Does it Work?

  • Mentors and Mentees register to participate, providing some relevant details about their career interest, industry, challenges, etc.
  • Our Mentoring team uses our proprietary software to score match quality and identify the best possible pairings of Mentors and Mentees.
  • Pairs commit to meet (online or in-person) once/twice per week for three months. Our mentoring platform facilitates meeting scheduling, and includes its own video/voice conferencing license.
    • We also present webinars and provide materials every week for each pair of mentor and mentee.
  • Our team monitors and supports the mentoring relationship through ongoing advice, group interactions, group meetings, networking, and problem‐solving exercises.
  • Pairs that meet their commitments and achieve their goals receive a certificate at the Graduation event.

Participation Requirements

  • Mentors must have a minimum of 3 years of direct work experience in their industry in the Canadian labour market. Mentors need not be members of Hispanotech.
  • Mentees must be members of Hispanotech, have immigrated within the last 5 years, and be eligible to work in Canada as a full-time employee (Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, or holder of a Temporary Work Permit).
  • In order to graduate, Mentees must attend at least 75% of the planned event s and sessions, and complete a minimum of 10 hours of work and direct interaction with their Mentors.
  • Participants that complete all the requirements will receive a digital badge and a certificate of participation in the program.
  • Upon request, a letter certifying the total volunteer hours will be issued to Mentors so they can claim Professional Development Units (PDUs).

Cost

  • There is no cost to participate as a Mentor.
  • Mentees will be asked to pay a $60 program fee.
  • The program fee will be refunded if we are unable to match a Mentee with a relevant Mentor. Two weeks after the program starts refunds will no longer be possible.
